IMPLANT: In dentistry, a titanium anchor is placed into the bone, which upon osseointegration can be used to attach a crown or attachment to retain and/or support a fixed or removable denture or bridge. The most common and successful type of implant is the root form implant which mimics a dental tooth root.
The material of implants:
Dental implants should not be harmful to the organism, must ensure connection to the surrounding tissues. The bone and the gum have to grow on it without gaps. This is why implants are clean, surface-treated root imitations.
Implantation is part of ambulatory treatment which takes about 30-60 minutes time. The itervention is done under local anesthesia and is painless for the patient. After the operation pain may appear for 1-2 days, but this can be controlled by the medication given by the clinic.
Full recovery takes 3-4 months time. During the healing period bone grows into the porose surface of the implant and the implant is thus fixed in the jaw. During the healing period chewing force on the implant is to be avoided completely if possible.
After healing the implant has to be opened. The mucous membrane and the protecting screw have to be removed and replaced with a healing screw. Impressions are taken for the final implant.
